🇵🇠Boosting Rice Productivity: National Level of Mechanization Hits 2.81 hp/ha

October 2025 — The Philippines continues to make strides toward modernizing its rice production. The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) announced that the national rice mechanization level has climbed to 2.81 horsepower per hectare (hp/ha) — a modest yet significant increase from 2.78 hp/ha recorded in February 2025.
This upward trend highlights the country’s ongoing efforts to improve farm efficiency and reduce labor dependency in rice production. The progress is largely credited to the expanded distribution of modern farm machinery under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program, which entered its second phase this year.
Through this initiative, qualified farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs), along with local government units (LGUs), have received high-quality equipment — including tractors, transplanters, harvesters, and dryers. These machines help farmers save time, reduce production costs, and achieve better yields.
PHilMech’s report signals a continuing momentum in the country’s push for agricultural modernization. As mechanization levels rise, Filipino rice farmers are gradually transitioning toward more productive, sustainable, and competitive farming systems.
